Art: Rice Upshaw House Near Dalton, AR

Just a few photos were taken today while we toured the historical Rice Upshaw House near Dalton, AR. After we finished there, we headed to Pocahontas to the park for lunch and the water park for the afternoon. I think the kids had a fun Friday.

FBLA: Googly Eyes

a collage of images with googly eyes

Googly eyes project-giving personality to everyday objects-to start our Monday morning. This was so much fun and the students put together some really good ones. Disclaimer- we all LOVE Dolly, and she is always photographed so perfectly, so when one of the students put crazy eyes on her cardboard cutout we just had to keep it.

FBLA: Waterfalls

same waterfall side by side

The photo on the left was taken with "Auto" settings, to take the photo on the right the camera was manually set to allow for the movement in the water-the shutter being left open longer. It required the camera to be positioned on a tripod so nothing else in the image would blur due to camera shake. We practiced how to take this photo ahead of time using a water faucet.

FBLA: Water Balloon-Fast Shutter Speed

water balloon being popped

Today we adjusted Shutter Speed & ISO to "freeze" the water without it blurring in the photo. This is also going to help these students take better pictures of things in motion that they don't want blurred, this is especially helpful for us in sports photography. We captured some pretty good images, but we do want to try this assignment again with larger balloons to attempt to capture the balloon mid burst.

Art Club: Summer School

collage of students working on art projects

Summer school kicked off this week. The 7th and 8th graders are having a lot of fun while they become entrepreneurs. These students are all getting ready to present their inventions and innovations to "The Shark Tank". Today, most of them were working on their prototypes and recipes for their products. They will be creating business names, slogans, advertisements and will do a presentation to try and get the sharks to invest in their businesses.

Art Club: Eclipse Artwork

Alma Woodsey Thomas is an African American Artist who created "The Eclipse" after being inspired by the total solar eclipse she experienced on March 7, 1970. This eclipse was visible from across the Eastern United States, including Washington, DC. Her masterpiece is displayed in the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C. Junior high and high school students used Alma Woodsey Thomas as inspiration for their very own artwork this week. They created their own versions of "The Eclipse".

Art: Kindergarten & 1st Grade Flowers

2024 Art Spring Flowers

Kindergarten & 1st Grade explored using crayon and paint today during their Art class. With crayon they added water to their cup and drew stems for the flowers. Then, we used yellow and red paint to create pretty flowers. First, they dabbed yellow in the shape of a triangle. Then, they used red to go over the top of the yellow. They noticed in some places the yellow and red mixed together to create orange. It was fun to see all the different ways their art turned out.

Art: 6th Grade Waves

2024 Art Club Waves

6th grade is ready for summer. We talked about how we are ready for some waves. We don't care if they are from the ocean, a lake, river, creek or pool. Bring on the warm sunshine and some water to play and relax in.

This lesson introduced movement in paintings. They learned how to use brush strokes, going along the direction of the wave, to make your eyes follow along when looking at the painting.

FFA: You've Got Mail

Our Ag Business class has been learning about communication and thought it would be fun to send business letters to a few of their favorite businesses. We got our first response! Brandon wrote to Fabick CAT and received a hat, sticker, magnet, and a handwritten note back! Excitement was an understatement when he learned about his package from them. Great job Brandon!

FBLA Valentine's Day

For Valentine's Day the Junior High Keyboarding Class typed anonymous valentines to each person in the class. They had to type at least one nice thing about the person that did not include their appearance. Some students really put a lot of thought into their compliments and everyone's day was brightened :)
